During the month of October, Faithfully Guided, Inc. and Mayor Kent Guinn hosted “Coffee & Kindness” at Symmetry Coffee & Crepes on Wednesday’s from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. to share and inspire each other during the 30-day Kindness Challenge for the community. The last Wednesday of the month, we met at City Hall to discuss the momentum we created and desire to continue our efforts.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and this kindness initiative is in recognition of the 4th Annual “Ocala’s Grow in Kindness Day” which was proclaimed and commemorated by Mayor Kent Guinn in 2014. This community anti-bullying initiative began in 2012 by Faithfully Guided, a 501-3c dedicated to renewing individuals, marriages, and families.
For the first time, this group of community leaders decided to continue kindness initiatives throughout the year instead of focusing efforts only during the month of October. Mayor Kent Guinn has generously offered to donate $1,000 to begin the fund that Faithfully Guided, Inc., 501-3c, will start in support of this community initiative. The rest of the community is invited to donate so these funds can grow and support kindness initiatives in our community all year long.
As part of the continued efforts, Faithfully Guided, Inc. will write a monthly column in their e-newsletter and set up a Facebook page to share the on-going kindness of this grassroots movement. We will continue to meet quarterly for “Coffee & Kindness” and discuss how we can support local initiatives and bring more kindness to our community. Most importantly, the 22nd of every month will become Ocala’s official day to share kindness. Whether it be helping a neighbor, purchasing a coffee for someone, or just giving someone a little extra time to listen, our community will be encouraged to “spread kindness” once a month via #Spreadkindnessocala and through our Facebook page.
Our goal is to unite our community by empowering one another to share experiences and together create a cultural change in our beautiful community. Healthy relationships make healthy communities.
